Kate Winslet loved that director John Hillcoat put together a scrap book before she started shooting Triple 9.

The Australian filmmaker helmed the recent fast paced action flick, which doesn’t shy away from violence and gore. Kate is joined by Aaron Paul, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Woody Harrelson in the all star movie, and was blown away by how much John helped her prep for her role as wicked Russian mobster Irina.

“Because John is so visual as a director one thing that he did for all of us and the crew that I was so grateful for, and I've literally never come across before, is he put together a book of references that had been helpful to him in terms of telling this story,” she marvelled to Cover Media.

“So his vision and intention is something that he shared with all of us, so that everyone, the crew included, was very much on the same page. And that was really impressive to me that John did that, because it's just not often you get that. Often you get left to your own devices and you work in little groups as actors and the crew beetle away doing their thing and there are different departments.”

She adds that the gesture pulled everyone together, and the 40-year-old was able to learn exactly how her character felt before the cameras started rolling.

Playing an all out baddie is a departure from Kate’s usual roles, and she admits she was taken aback when the part was suggested to her.

“I mean it's nothing like anything I have done before at all,” she explained. “I've long been an admirer of John's work; as a director but also as a storyteller. So I did feel just very excited to be involved.”
