Kim Kardashian pays tribute to prisoner Nathaniel Woods following execution

Kim Kardashian paid tribute to prisoner Nathaniel Woods after he was executed on Thursday, despite her attempts to save him.

The 39-year-old reality star, who is becoming known for her work in the criminal justice sector, took to Twitter to mourn the Alabama man, who was sentenced to death after being convicted of fatally shooting three police officers.

"Nate will die for a crime another man confessed to and says Nate had nothing to do with. My heart and prayers are with Nate and his family and all the advocates who worked tirelessly to save his life," she wrote, before adding in a later tweet: "RIP Nathaniel Woods."

Following the June 2004 murder of police officers Carlos Owen, Harley Chisolm and Charles Bennett, Woods was convicted of capital murder. He and his roommate Kerry Spencer had been dealing crack cocaine at their home when the three officers attempted to serve an arrest warrant and were fatally shot.

While it was Spencer who pulled the trigger, prosecutors argued that the idea to ambush the officers had been Woods'.

However, Woods' legal team hit back and said he didn't deserve the sentence, as Spencer had confessed to the crime and Woods didn't pull the trigger.

Following attempts to delay the execution, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a temporary stay to consider last-minute appeals, but ultimately denied them.

Spencer was also been sentenced to death following his conviction.
