Colin Farrell would offer a dollar if he came across himself in the street.

The actor is considered one of the sexiest men in Hollywood but for his latest role in the new series of True Detective he's grown a handlebar moustache and piled on the pounds.

Even prior to his TV-transformation, the 38-year-old considered himself anything other than handsome.

"When I see a picture of, say, Chris Hemsworth, I think he looks like a handsome and debonair chap. Although, to be fair, Chris Hemsworth could manage that in a tracksuit," Colin admitted to the British edition of Glamour magazine. "But sometimes when I see pictures of myself, I think, if I saw him on the street, I'd give him a dollar and say, 'Hope things get better for you.'"

Despite enjoying the initial binge on junk food to achieve his paunch, the star admits it gets boring after the second cheeseburger.

TV is definitely having its moment, with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson impressing in the last series of True Detective and other shows like House of Cards and Game of Thrones also whipping up a huge following. It's something Colin is proud to be a part of.

"You look at Steve Buscemi in Boardwalk Empire, Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright in House of Cards," he listed.

"They used to stay that film is the way forward and television is a step back - but it's not that way anymore.
