Gerard Butler lands Brilliant role

(Cover) - EN Movies - Gerard Butler has signed on to star in Brilliant.

The Scottish actor completed a three-week stay at a rehab centre recently and has already thrown himself back into work. Variety reports that Gerard will play a small-time criminal who teams up with a female thief to plan a daring diamond heist.

Eric Bana was originally in line for the role according to reports last year. At the time, Cameron Diaz was tipped to land the female lead.

Robert Luketic will direct the movie, with the script penned by Gillian Gorfil – whose past credits include Blood Diamond.

Gerard previously worked with Robert on The Ugly Truth, which also starred Katherine Heigl.

Brilliant is slated to begin filming in May in Boston.

Gerard can next be seen in the comedy Movie 43, as well as Playing the Field.

The 42-year-old actor decided to seek professional help after developing a problem with prescription medication. He began taking painkillers after injuring himself while shooting the surfing drama Of Men and Mavericks.

He is also preparing to work on Thunder Run and Hunter Killer.
