Jeremy Irvine 'intimidated by Great Expectations'

(Cover) - EN Movies - Jeremy Irvine was intimidated by his lead role in the latest big screen adaptation of Great Expectations.

The British actor felt the pressure of playing Charles Dickens’ Pip in such a well-known story.

Speaking to Cover Media at the BFI London Film Festival, Jeremy admitted he was forced to cast any self-doubt aside.

“I tried not to think about it. I didn't approach it any differently to any other role,” he said.

Jeremy noted making the character his own was no easy task. He follows in the footsteps of Ethan Hawke, Anthony Calf, Douglas Booth and John Mills, among others, in the oft-filmed drama.

But the young star was bent on developing his own ideas for the role.

“I wanted to make my character Pip stronger and more driven than how he's been played in adaptations before,” he explained.

Jeremy stars opposite Holliday Grainger, Ralph Fiennes and Helena Bonham Carter in Mike Newell’s forthcoming adaptation.

Great Expectations closed the 11-day BFI London Film Festival.

Helena and her director husband Tim Burton each received BFI Fellowships at the event on Saturday.

Jacques Audiard’s Rust and Bone also won the coveted Star of London prize.
