(Cover) - EN Movies - Les Misérables makeup artist Lisa Westcott made actors look as “decrepit” as possible in the film.
Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried and Russell Crowe star in the new musical movie based on the novel written by 19th century French author Victor Hugo.
Under the hand of Lisa, Hugh underwent an extensive transformation for his role as ex-con Jean Valjean.
“He has scars on his head, where it’s been roughly chopped by jailers,” she explained to British newspaper The Sun.
“He had this long straggly beard which we extended. We just made him very decrepit and tired and filthy.
“Contact lenses made to make him look sore in the eyes, and then we had some teeth made, some slips that went over his own teeth.”
Lisa claims that making over such attractive people wasn’t an easy feat.
Making Anne look believable as Fantine, a prostitute who sells her teeth to earn a living, was particularly challenging.
“How can you make a beautiful woman not look beautiful?” she mused.
“It’s kind of tricky isn’t it.”
Anne loved Lisa’s work.
The star feels lucky that she didn’t have to undergo a physical change as drastic as some of her other colleagues’.
“A lot of people had to wear plastic moulds on top of their teeth that had been painted,” Anne revealed.
“I was one of the lucky ones. I didn’t have to wear it, I was just able to paint my own teeth.”
Les Misérables will be released in the US on Christmas Day.
