Peter Jackson thrilled with Hobbit setting

(Cover) - EN Movies - Peter Jackson says it is fantastic to begin shooting the “texture of Middle Earth” for his new movie The Hobbit: The Unexpected Journey.

The director has been filming the first scenes of the new picture in the studio for many weeks. He is thrilled to now get out on location in New Zealand and begin shooting the mythical landscape of Middle Earth.

“We’ve been travelling pretty much the length and breadth of New Zealand shooting locations for The Hobbit,” he said in his latest production video.

“It’s been great to get outside, and it’s been great to get that texture of Middle Earth into the movie after many, many weeks of shooting in the studio we’ve established our characters, we’ve established our story and it was finally time to get on the road and establish the landscapes of Middle Earth.”

The film is an adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic fantasy novel. It will act as a prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy of films, which were also directed by Peter and shot in New Zealand.

“The main reason for going on location for the project is to capture the scenic beauty of New Zealand,” said Jared Connon, supervising location manager on the movie.

“Peter has often said one of the things that won the fans over so much in the Lord of the Rings series was the unbelievable vistas because they were so magnificent.”
