(Cover) - EN Movies - Rupert Sanders used his own blood in Snow White and the Huntsman to avoid the fake stuff looking like "raspberry jam".
At the start of the upcoming action fantasy film, there is a scene where Snow White's mother pricks her finger and her blood falls on the snow.
The director came up with an unusual solution after being unsatisfied with the authenticity of the fake blood the crew were using.
"It's true but there's a lot more sweat and tears than there are drops of blood of mine in that film," he explained to the BBC. "We were shooting the drops of blood at a very high frame rate and the fake blood just looked like raspberry jam."
Rupert’s stunt didn't go without the odd hiccup though. Time wasn't on the crew’s side when filming the tricky scene.
"So I asked if there was any pig's blood and was told, 'We don't use that any more,' so I snuck round the corner and someone drew 50cc of my blood and I handed that to the prop guys," he said.
"It was a real race because it was congealing under the lights, but we got it in the end and the blood looks like real blood."
Snow White and the Huntsman stars Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth.
