(Cover) - EN Movies - Simon Pegg would love to be “allowed” to take on a more serious role.
The British actor is known for his comic movies such as Shaun of the Dead and for providing light relief in action films such as Star Trek.
The actor has admitted he would love to play a deeper character, but he isn’t convinced audiences will approve.
"I'd like to do something serious if I'm allowed to," he told the BBC.
"I feel like I have that capacity but it depends if the right script comes along. Audiences sometimes won't let comic actors be serious."
The star cites Will Ferrell as an example of a star who struggles to move away from comedies.
Will has tested his acting chops with two serious films, Stranger than Fiction and Everything Must Go.
But neither of the movies were big hits at the box office.
"Will Ferrell is a great example of a guy who people aren't sure about when he does something serious," he said.
"I really loved Stranger than Fiction, which was a serious film he did, but the audiences didn't turn out so much. It's almost like you're not allowed to do serious stuff."
Simon has a circle of friends who he relies on to be brutally honest about all his work.
He met one of his best friends, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, while they were filming Shaun of the Dead.
"He's very honest about my films. I got very upset once because I showed him a trailer for one of my films and he didn't seem that keen,” he confessed. "But he was kind of right. He's incapable of lying."
