Anna Kendrick worried she would "blubber" her way through a charity event for ill women.

The actress spent a day with Lipstick Angels as part of an event for Burt's Bees' Hive With Heart project.

Lipstick Angels offers make-up and beauty sessions to women in hospital and the beauty brand teamed with them to provide support and products.

Anna, 28, visited City of Hope treatment centre to lend a hand and has shared her experience on a blog for Burt's Bees.

"Overwhelmed is a word I probably use too often; when I’m packing for a long trip, or cleaning out my junk drawer, or every damn time I assemble a piece of Ikea furniture. But it’s the only word I could use to describe how I felt leaving the Hive With Heart event at City of Hope," she wrote in the touching entry.

"The strange part though, was that I didn’t feel overwhelmed in the way I expected to. I’ll admit that in the days leading up to it I was nervous about spending the day with a group of women who were facing such critical illness. Would I be the idiot who blubbered her way through every introduction, mumbling about bravery and adversity and things about which I have been lucky enough to know truly nothing' Or would I be stricken and helpless, feeling awkward during the event and depressed afterward'

"The beautiful thing about that day and about The Lipstick Angels program is that no one can seem to stop grinning."

Anna added that the experience reminded her of a middle school sleepover, with lots of talking and laughter. She also loved hearing the women talk about the things they did to make themselves look and feel great, such as wear wigs.

The star encouraged the girls to help themselves to her favourite Sweet Violet tinted balm from the selection Burt's Bees had provided. For patients too ill to leave their beds, the team left goodies by their rooms.

Anna is also keeping busy with work, promoting the upcoming Pitch Perfect sequel.
