Sam Worthington will reportedly portray a hitman in Hunter’s Prayer.
The Wrath of the Titans actor has quite a busy few years ahead of him, as he’ll be filming three Avatar sequels between now and 2018 in addition to appearing in eight other pictures.
But Variety reports Sam is taking on a starring role in Hunter’s Prayer before Avatar shooting commences.
In the independent thriller Sam portrays Lucas, an assassin hired to take out a little girl. When the professional killer is unable to bring himself to murder the child, the two are chased around Europe by people who want them dead.
Hunter’s Prayer recently received investment from British regional film and TV organisation Screen Yorkshire. The project is said to be working with an estimated budget of $25 million.
The feature will be directed by Jonathan Mostow, the filmmaker behind Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.
Paul Leyden, Oren Moverman, John Brancato and Michael Ferris penned the script, which was adapted from Kevin Wignall’s novel For the Dogs.
Several production houses are joining forces for Hunter’s Prayer, including Film Engine, Midsummer Films and Full Clip. Navid McIlhargey, Anthony Rhulen, Chris Milburn, John and Michael Schwarz, actor Sam and screenwriter Paul will all serve as producers.
Sam released Sabotage in March, a film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger that centres on an elite DEA task force whose members find themselves being hunted down by a drug cartel.
And the 66-year-old iconic actor had nothing but praise for his 37-year-old co-star.
“Sam Worthington is an extraordinary performer and he is just about the most intense guy,” Arnold explained to Total Film previously. “When he is on a set, I don’t think he can talk very much about anything else but the part, the role that he plays because he is so in his zone that you don’t want to interrupt him. It’s the very thing that makes him such an unbelievable performer, why he’s so believable.”
