(Cover) - EN Movies - Hugh Grant refuses to play anymore “stuttering British guys” in movies.

The actor is renowned for starring in romantic comedies including Four Weddings and a Funeral and Notting Hill. However, Hugh insists he is moving on to more challenging roles in movies such as Cloud Atlas. He plays six different characters in the film which also stars Tom Hanks and Halle Berry.

"What I don't want to play anymore are stuttering British guys with dishevelled hair that are confused by love. These times are definitely over,” he told the German edition of InStyle.

“In Cloud Atlas I play six incarnations of evil. That's something which interests me."

Based upon the sci-fi novel by David Mitchell, Cloud Atlas follows six intricately related stories that travel from the remote South Pacific in the nineteenth century to a distant, post-apocalyptic future. Hugh admits playing so many different roles was difficult and worries he is only capable of pulling off one type of character.

"I don't know if I can show a completely different Hugh Grant with very dark emotions,” he confessed.

“I fear people have already seen everything I am capable of as an actor. And I am not evil by nature. The only role which I can play well is the nice, British gentleman. So basically, I always play myself. Well, that is except for the more serious roles that I played at the beginning of my career. I haven't always been an expert for romantic comedies."

The 51-year-old adds he has been acting less over the past three years so he can focus on directing and writing screenplays. He is growing tired of always being in front of the camera.

"I have never been that kind of actor who cannot live without the stage or the camera,” he said.

“The only thing that gives me satisfaction is creativity. I like to create something by myself. As an actor, I just repeat other people’s words. Even when I wrote radio plays in the Eighties, I felt more like a real man at the end of the day. As an actor, you just stand in front of the camera with lots of make-up on and you have to remember your lines."
