Tom Hardy has joked that the new Mad Max movie will be a musical.

The British actor is preparing to star in Mad Max: Fury Road. The project has been the subject of intense speculation, with claims it could take up to a year to film.

Tom has addressed rumours about the production schedule, claiming plans have been scaled down and the script will see the cast showing off their singing talents.

“It was going to be a year of filming, then six months, and now we’re supposed to be doing it in six days. It’s a musical – we’re going to go around shopping centres in a little wagon and sing songs,” Tom joked to Empire at the Cannes Film Festival. “People were expecting big, but we’re going to give them small. It’ll be a live, free-running musical and it’s coming to a place near you soon.”

Tom has been growing an impressive beard for the role of Max Rockatansky in the reboot. The project has been hit by a series of delays and it has been reported the ambitious shooting schedule has been reduced for financial reasons.
Tom admits he is none the wiser about when cameras will start rolling.

“We keep moving that around, you know'” he shrugs. “Who knows when it’ll come out' I’ve been on stand-by for two years… but it’s all part of it. It’s kind of the cool thing to do, to be elusive with dates and all that.”
