Arnold Schwarzenegger is reportedly trying to get the law changed so he can run for US President.

At the moment US constitution states that only American-born people can land the role and as the 66-year-old star was born in Austria, it rules him out.

Arnold was Governor of California between 2003 and 2011 and has apparently decided to do his best to get the regulations changed.

“Schwarzenegger has been talking openly about working on getting the constitutional rules changed so he can run for president in 2016. He is ready to file legal paperwork to challenge the rules,” an insider told New York Post.

For the change to go ahead, the Hollywood hard-man would need the backing of two thirds of the House and the Senate.

He has been open about his desire to live in the White House many times over the years, saying he would “without doubt” run for presidency if the rules were changed during a talk show appearance in 2010.

It has been claimed that although the law is pretty clear on the topic, court may decide to let politicians decide if a US citizen who was born elsewhere – like Arnold – staged a campaign.

Many politicians have already discussed the likelihood of The Terminator star becoming president. New York City mayor Mike Bloomberg even joked he would like to team up with him when quizzed on the topic in the past.

“There would be a fight to see who would be the presidential candidate and who would be the vice presidential candidate,” he said, according to the publication. “He would want to arm-wrestle for the top spot; I would want to check the constitution.”
