Liv Tyler shot Space Station 76 on a set where “porn films” used to be made.

The 37-year-old actress portrays assistant captain Jessica in director Jack Plotnick’s picture, which offers a 1970s version of space travel drama to viewers.

And Liv was tickled to learn a lot of Seventies porn was shot on the set where Space Station 76 was filmed.

“We shot on this crazy stage in the Valley where they used to make porn films, which was hilarious,” she laughed to Collider. “The sets were great. There was not a lot of budget, and they did such a good job of the visual aesthetic.”

Although the feature’s production budget was limited, Liv says cast and crew made up for the financial limitations with an abundance of creativity.

She was astounded by the level of period accuracy achieved through set and costume design, as some of the wardrobe was even pulled from her own closet.

“I always love doing any kind of period anything ‘cause it’s so fun to see the attention to detail and to look around every day and go, ‘Wow, look at that thing.’” she gushed.

“The costumes were hilarious. [Co-star] Patrick [Wilson] and I had these uniforms that were made out of upholstery fabric. They were so stinky and they were so f**king hot that we thought we were going to die, all the time.

“I had these white boots that I had gotten in Milan, Italy at Prada when I was 19, and I had never worn them. I’ve been holding onto them for 20 years, and then I ended up wearing them in the movie. I thought it was really cool, how things come around.”

Space Station 76, which also stars Matt Bomer, is in select US theatres now and will be available on DVD September 30.
