Adam Sandler helps raise $15,000 for Cameron Boyce charity

Adam Sandler has honoured his late Grown Ups co-star Cameron Boyce by raising money for his favoured charity.

Thirst Project CEO and co-founder Seth Maxwell told editors at TMZ that the actor's Facebook fundraiser has helped raise nearly $15,000 (£12,000) for the charity, which provides clean drinking water and wells throughout Africa.

The organisation was a passion of the 20-year-old, who passed away earlier this month after suffering a seizure in his sleep. The actor's parents later confirmed he suffered from epilepsy.

Boyce, who had raised over $30,000 (£24,000) for the Thirst Project and helped to build two new wells in Swaziland, was honoured with the Pioneering Spirit Award at the organisation's annual gala last April.

Following his death, pals of the star, including Sandler, fellow Disney star Skai Jackson and Modern Family actor Nolan Gould, have also raised awareness of the Thirst Project.

Sandler previously paid tribute to Boyce with a touching Instagram post, describing him as "the nicest, most talented, and most decent kid around".

"Loved that kid. Cared so much about his family. Cared so much about the world," he wrote. "Thank you, Cameron, for all you gave to us. So much more was on the way. All our hearts are broken.”

After Boyce's death, Disney executives also donated to the Thirst Project, and cancelled the premiere of his final movie Descendants 3.
