Ewan McGregor: Life is no party

Ewan McGregor says his life is no “showbiz party”.

The Hollywood star keeps his personal and family life very much separate from the glitzy movie industry.

The actor has starred in some of Hollywood’s most popular movies including the Star Wars prequels but remains guarded about his private affairs.

The 40-year-old has been married to his wife Eve for 16 years and has four daughters aged one to 15.

“I’ve tried very hard to keep them out of the way, because it’s nothing to do with anybody, and it’s not fair on them,” he told WWD. “We have a group of friends where some are in the business, some are not in the business — and all walks of the business: a lawyer, a writer, a director we know — and their kids and our kids are all friends. It’s not some kind of showbiz party around our house on the weekends. It’s far from it. It’s like real life.”

Ewan also spoke about his decision to give up alcohol more than ten years ago.

The Trainspotting star decided to quit drinking after fearing he was close to becoming an alcoholic.

“It was effortless, because it was the only thing I was prepared to give up. I wasn’t prepared to give up my career or my child — I wasn’t about to lose my children... 11 years. Easy-peasy,” he said.
