Action thriller The Assassin Next Door comes to DVD on 14 February, starring former Bond girl Olga Kurylenko as Galia, a hired killer who fights back against the local sex-traffic mafia. Olga took time out to answer a few questions about the film, and her acting career and her charity work.
What attracted you to the role of Galia in THE ASSASSIN NEXT DOOR?
It was an emotional role for a character with a very difficult and sad life story who has huge struggles inside of her. It was a rare leading female role to play.
After The Assassin Next Door, Quantum of Solace, Hitman and Centurion, you have a bit of a reputation as an action hero. Are you like that in real life?
I’m not an action hero in real life. Fighting and doing stunts is fun for me, a part of a game. In real life I don’t consider it fun and I consider that everything can be solved by a conversation.
While The Assassin Next Door is an action film it does have serious themes about organised crime and sex trafficking. Is this something you feel strongly about and what it something that attracted you to the film?
Yes, that’s one of the reason I wanted to do the film. I wanted to speak about sex trafficking so people pay more attention that it exists and that this danger can be around the corner for women. I think if women are aware of it they can be more careful.
Were you a fan of James Bond before you appeared in Quantum of Solace, and how has your life changed since becoming a Bond girl?
I was a fan of James Bond before. The change in my life after the film was the fact that I became more known and started getting even more role offers.
Do you prefer acting or modelling?
Acting obviously, otherwise I wouldn’t have swapped modelling for it.
Which actresses do you look up to?
Isabelle Huppert, Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchett.
You have done a lot of charity work with disadvantaged children in your native Ukraine. Why is this important to you?
Because I think it is important to help others if one is able to. It’s always good to share what you’ve got. It’s only fair.
What projects have you got line up next?
I have There Be Dragons coming out in March and Land of Oblivion and Empires of the Deep later this year.
The Assassin Next Door is on DVD on 14th February 2011.
